7 Tactics to Get a WOW When You Start a Dollar Store

When you start a dollar store make sure to think about, plan and focus on creating a store that grabs the attention of everyone who enters your store. Sure all of this starts even before a shopper enters your store. There must be great signage, lots of convenient parking, and products presented even before shoppers get to the door of your store. Yet, the instant shoppers enter is the moment that must WOW them. Not only will you see dollar store sale levels increase, but your customer retention rate will grow as well. Fortunately there are some easy yet powerful tactics to set your store apart. In this article I present 7 of those tactics to wow your shoppers.

Tactic #1) When you are preparing to start a dollar store leave your lobby open and free of fixtures. This is a location that gets maximum traffic. You need to use it to increase dollar store sales while it factors into the overall positive shopping experience you want to create. Don’t forget to add eye catching signage to all merchandise displayed in the lobby.

Tactic #2) Place bulk displays of merchandise in the lobby. These can be pallets filled with varied merchandise. They can be prep-packaged bulk displays that are available from some wholesalers. They can even be floor stands of similar products placed next to each other. Make buying for bulk displays a weekly chore. Some weeks you may not locate the hot selling items you seek, and others you’ll find them at great low wholesale prices. Just make sure you rotate the merchandise and never allow your bulk displays to sell down too low before changing or replenishing them.

Tactic #3) Make sure the store is painted pleasant colors and they are conducive to a pleasurable shopping experience. It seems so basic, yet a great choice of paint colors, coupled with a fresh coat that’s just been added has an extremely strong impact on the overall shopping experience of your customers. Chipped, scratched, mismatched, faded paint or too bright a color choice all has an equally powerful negative impact.

Tactic #4) Have adequate lighting to highlight your store’s merchandise. Brighten up all dimly lit corners. Replace fading or burned out bulbs. Consider adding strategic small spot lights to the best selling areas in your store. Always remember that light and bright sells merchandise. And you can achieve this without adding so much lighting that your store requires a dedicated power plant for its electricity. Strategically placing smaller floodlights and other lighting does amazing things for the overall results.

Tactic #5) Have pleasant music playing softly in the background. The music played in your store is not for you or your employees. It is for the pleasure of your customers. Make your music selections accordingly. Remember; this is background music. Make sure it warm and that it actually encourages your shoppers to stick around in your store a little longer. The longer they are in your store the greater the opportunity to make extra purchases. That likely means you will see increased dollar store sale levels.

Tactic #6) Stock merchandise high around the sides and to the rear of your store. This tactic gives your store a fully stocked appearance. It adds to the overall positive impression shoppers will have when they first enter your store. Imagine the thought going through a shopper’s head as they enter and immediately scan your store. They will be thinking, Merchandise everywhere. This is a place I will need to spend a little time exploring. They will also leave felling they didn’t see everything; so a return trip will be a necessity.

Tactic #7) When you start a dollar store be sure to have a large ‘Welcome’ lettered across the back of your store. Make those entering your store feel welcomed. Adding an easy to spot welcome message helps set that tone when shoppers first enter your store. They will feel they are appreciated and will pause a little longer to shop. The results will be happier customers and higher dollar store sale levels.

To your success when you start a dollar store!
